In 2006 we embarked on a project intended to document African Amerian gospel quartet music beginning with Ira Tucker and the Dixie Hummingbirds. Over time this project resulted in two documentary films, The Jefferson County Sound (2012) about the free-form gospel quartet sound that developed in Alabama in the 1920s and 30s; and How They Got Over: Gospel Quartets and the Road to Rock n' Roll(2018), about the rocking form of gospel that evolved into early rock and roll.

Alabama Black Belt Blues, produced in cooperation with Alabama Public Television had its broadcast premiere in October 2020 and was nominated for a regional Emmy Award.
